Friends Sponsoring Student Field Trips

Friends of South Cumberland State Recreation Area are happy to be able to sponsor a full-day field trip this spring to Savage Gulf for every fifth grade class in Grundy County. Field trips will be led by park rangers.

The Friends of SCSRA will pay for transportation by school bus. Schools will be combined, if possible, to reduce cost. Teachers must provide one or two parental or adult friend chaperones for each 10 students. Chaperones may ride on the bus if space allows, but they should be prepared to drive.

We will be doing the 4 ½-mile Savage Gulf day loop trail, and we plan to return to the ranger station in time for lunch. In addition to LUNCH, each student should have WATER and a SNACK for the trail. Also, please encourage students to bring their DIGITAL CAMERAS. The Friends of SCSRA are sponsoring a photo contest called Pictures in the Park, and there is a special category for students.

If you have the opportunity before the field trip, please visit the Friends of SCSRA website at http://www.friendsofscsra.org/. While you’re there, check out the Pictures in the Park photo contest. We hope that you and your students will enter the contest.

Schedule of trips:

April 24 – Palmer (Ms. Nunley, 21 students); Swiss ( Ms. McBee and Ms. Keener, 15 students each)

April 27 – Tracy City (Ms. Johnson, 21 students; Mr. Hill, 20)

April 29 – North (Ms. Troglin and Ms. Partin, 37 students)
