Symposium on Treatment and Solutions for the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid

February 26, 2008 McClurg, Room A The University of the South Campus

As the hemlock woolly adelgid continues to spread throughout the Southeast, this symposium is designed to be an educational resource for Savage Gulf State Park.  The goal is to have several individuals that have dealt with this problem in other parks share their work and exchange ideas with those interested in saving the hemlocks in Savage Gulf State Park.

The symposium will run from 9:30am until the early afternoon, on February 26, 2008. The morning will be presentations from those that have worked with treatment, those that are knowledgeable of the ecological impacts of losing hemlocks, and those that have worked with Savage Gulf State Park on quantifying their hemlocks.

After lunch, a round table discussion will be held to discuss ideas from the morning and how these can be applied to moving forward with the hemlocks in Savage Gulf State Park. We hope to exchange ideas that will help this park approach the woolly adelgid pest problem in an efficient and effective manner.

New Savage Gulf Video Online

Friends member and ace photographer Eric Dempsey has produced a new video showing brief glimpses of the many spectacular waterfalls in the Park.  Follow the About Your Park link to the Savage Gulf Video link at http://www.friendsofscsra.org. Nice job, Eric!

Show Us Your Stuff

As part of the ongoing redesign of the Friends website, your humble webmaster (that's me) would like some new Park photos to put on the Park photo page.  Please email me your photos with a brief description and we will get them online.

Speaking of photos and the Park, I am pleased to report that one of my photos of Greeter Falls is featured as a small image in the Patagonia 2008 calendar on the June page.  I gave the Dogwood Alliance permission to use this image when they made their application to be featured in the calendar and, by golly, we made it.  We all be famous now.
