Cumberland Wild 2007 Press Release
|
What do the Grundy County
High Angle Rescue Team, the Grundy County Arts Council, and
Throwing Down Band have in common?
All will be on hand for the second annual Cumberland Wild,
Saturday, July 14, an event that focuses on the economic
benefit that preservation of the state park will bring to
our area. Some activities, including hikes, rappelling, and
the Arts in the Park workshop will be held at the Great
Stone Door and Greeter Falls, but most will take place at
the Beersheba Springs Hotel.
And that’s not all: Sarah Mallory will sing; Michael Bradley
will tell tales; William Ray Turner will display
memorabilia; and Andy Weaver will teach everybody to make a
turkey call. There will be lots for young and old to see and
do!
In the afternoon, we will have a forum on conservation and
economic growth, featuring Grundy County Mayor Boo Bouldin,
Alliance for the Cumberlands director Katherine Medlock, and
Tennessee Overhill Association Director Linda Caldwell.
Learn what steps we need to take to preserve the park and
use it as a springboard for economic growth.
Lunch in the dining room, and then munch on treats from the
Dutch Maid Bakery while you listen to good music and learn
about the GCHS biodiesel fuel project; the Mountain Goat
Bike Trail; and the Cumberland Farmers Market. Chat with
craftspeople and see their displays on quilting, basket
weaving, scythe making, woodworking, and community-supported
farming. More displays and workshops are in the works.
So plan on a great day, chock full of fun and interesting
things to do. South Cumberland is our treasure. Bring your
family; bring your neighbors. Let’s learn how to combine our
park’s long-term protection with sustainable local economic
growth.
The event is sponsored by the Friends of South Cumberland
State Park. Check out the website www.friendsofscsra.org for
up-to-the-minute information. |
