The South Cumberland Park Rangers and expert volunteers provide a range of guided interpretive activities, hikes, backcountry skills training and a few special programs like rappelling and canoeing.  There are also numerous programs just for kids (regardless of your age) and occasional work days for trail maintenance. The schedule is updated monthly.

Winter Film Series Part 4 National Parks; Americas Best Idea

Meet Ranger Brent at the South Cumberland Visitor Center to watch Ken Burns’ wonderful documentary about one of our most precious resources, our National Parks.

6:00 p.m.
Moonlight Hike

Enter the eerie world of the winter night, without lights!  This easy  1.5 mile hike will meet at the Visitors Center.

Snakes of TN

Join the ranger at the Stone Door Ranger Station.  We will be learning about native snakes, both venomous and non-venomous.  Get to see and touch a live non-venomous snake and learn to identify venomous snakes in the area.

Raven Point Loop

This 9-mile loop trail explores the head of the famous Fiery Gizzard Gulf.  The terrain is rugged and beautiful  so not only will you need a camera, but sturdy boots, food, and water.  Meet at Grundy Forest Parking lot.

2:00 p.m.
Creepy Crawlies

Join the ranger at the Stone Door Ranger Station.  We will be showing and discussing a variety of preserved wildlife, such as skulls, snake skins, spiders, and aquatic insects.

Animal Tracks

Join the ranger at the Stone Door Ranger Station.  We will be making animal track ID books to use when finding tracks on the park or in your backyard.

Join the ranger at the Stone Door Ranger Station.  We will be showing and discussing a variety of skulls.  We have mammal, bird, and reptile skulls to show you.  Learn about carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores.  See what your favorite animals look like on the inside.
